Annual Salary: $104,714.98 - $128,879.66 DOE/DOQ
This salary range reflects the negotiable range for hire. However, the top of the range for future career and salary advancement is $153,044.34 annually.

This dynamic and experienced Manager will directly oversee six public health professionals and a budget of approximately $4 million. As the head of the Disease Control & Prevention Division, you will be responsible for championing key initiatives surrounding tuberculosis, communicable diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, and immunization programs. THE JOB
As the Disease Control & Prevention Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing six direct reports within the Disease Control & Prevention Division of the Public Health Department. You will oversee a budget of approximately $4 million and report directly to the Deputy Director of Public Health. In this role, you will work closely with the Public Health Officer and be involved in various community outreach, prevention, and response initiatives related to communicable diseases, collaborating with the California Department of Public Health, local jails, and schools. You will serve as a subject matter expert, balancing administrative tasks with nursing and clinical duties. Additionally, you will be responsible for helping your staff provide accurate and up-to-date public health information to the community while working to improve and enhance systems within the Division. You will also oversee assessments, policy development, and evaluations of activities that support county-wide efforts in disease prevention, control, and surveillance.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience as a public health nursing professional, serve as a resource for communicable disease knowledge and mitigation efforts, and be a creative and innovative problem solver. They will have a balance of nursing/clinical and administrative experience, managing a unique set of responsibilities that involves everything from disease prevention strategies to budget management. They will be eager to learn, as this role offers plenty of training opportunities regarding infectious disease topics and protocols. They will be an exemplary communicator who will develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and staff. The successful candidate will have many competing priorities and demonstrate a strong interest in engaging, developing, and mentoring staff. They will have a passion for staying up to date on the evolving needs of the community and be highly organized with exceptional time-management skills.  


EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
The core competencies identified above (for more details regarding the County’s leadership competencies, click  HERE) and the ability to demonstrate these competencies consistent with the position's level in the leadership series and the specific work assignment AND
  • Possession of a valid Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Practitioner, or Public Health Nurse license issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing; AND three years of professional experience in community health, public health, or other healthcare setting that includes two years of program management (budget and policy development, oversight of staff and resources, and operational decision making); OR
  • A combination of training education and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed and provides the required knowledge and abilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION
  • Must obtain California Driver's License by the time of appointment.

APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS:
  1. Review applications and supplemental questionnaire to determine those applicants who meet the employment standards.
  2. Supplemental Questionnaire Ranking: Responses to the required supplemental questionnaire will be evaluated and scored. Candidates' final score and rank on the eligibility list will be determined by their responses to the supplemental questionnaire. This process may be eliminated if there are fewer than 11 qualified candidates.

Candidates must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the supplemental questionnaire ranking to be placed on an employment list. An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established, all candidates will receive written notice of their score on the exam(s), rank on the employment list, and exact duration of the employment list.
