The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is a School of Medicine academic/research/clinical department of 20 faculty members, 4 Fellows, 12 Residents, and approximately 25 staff members. The department is an active academic department, providing teaching, research and clinical service in the School of Medicine.

Responsibilities

This position will provide medical services for UC Davis student-athletes via daily training room clinics in intercollegiate athletics for sports-related illness and injury, with attention to diagnosis, treatment, consultation, rehabilitation and provision for safe return to participation. This position will provide medical supervision to the Head Athletic Trainer, and to the athletic training staff, in regard to illness and injury assessment, injury management and rehabilitative services provided in the training room or athletic field. The incumbent should be well versed in the diagnosing, treatment and management of mental health issues. The incumbent will travel with the football team for away contests and coordinate additional team physician coverage as necessary. This position also works with Associate and volunteer physicians to provide coverage to various home and away competition for UC Davis Intercollegiate Athletics.
The head team physician will also be responsible for administrative leadership relating to the student athletes. This includes working with Athletic Department Staff (Athletics Director, coaches, training staff, etc), Student Health Center faculty/staff, UC Davis Health faculty/staff and may include other stakeholders related to student athlete health, policies and medical care. This requires timely communication, organizational and leadership skills in addition to medical knowledge and skills.
Required Qualifications
Must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree*
Candidate must have sports board CAQ and a minimum of 3 years' experience working after fellowship in sports medicine with extensive team/event coverage experience.
Candidate must have training and expertise in sports-related illness and injury, with attention to diagnosis, treatment, consultation, rehabilitation.
Must have a valid California medical license prior to appointment start date.
Board eligible in at least one of the following specialties: Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and/or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
Skills to perform diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations when medically indicated.
Skills to perform ultrasound guided injections and aspirations when medically indicated.
Special Requirements
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
