Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

The Forecasting and Scheduling Specialist (West Gas Desk) will report to the VP Regional Pricing & Supply for West Gas ("VP"). This position will be responsible for Forecasting, Scheduling, Trading and Portfolio Analysis/Optimization. The Individual should be able to independently assess and resolve any operational issues affecting the daily operations of the portfolio. This position is directly responsible for providing and articulating daily position(s), market reports as well as strategies to optimize portfolio to the VP, Structuring as well as Sales. Furthermore, the position will also support structuring and hedging, deal flow management, contracting, enrollments, billing analysis, and other ad hoc projects. This individual must possess a strong commercial acumen, a thorough understanding of natural gas markets, and scheduling and forecasting protocols/processes accordingly.

Job Responsibilities

Nominating / Scheduling

  • Nominate/schedule natural gas on intrastate and interstate pipelines and LDCs; regular weekend and holiday activity is required.
  • Maintain an accurate knowledge of all scheduling and balancing rules for any applicable pipelines/LDCs.
  • Monitor and understand the impact of maintenance and pipeline outage issues.
  • Ensure that all accounts/pools/points are in balance and no action is required to avoid penalties or cash outs.

Trading/Operational Execution

  • Execute spot trades based on balancing requirements, customers' needs, and portfolio optimization including storage, transport and production positions.
  • Manage customer loads closely by checking on load forecasts, interfacing with customers directly, and tracking/accounting for any loss/gain associated with imbalances.
  • Provide imbalance tolerances as needed in order to maximize optionality while accounting for the risk of being out of tolerance.
  • Forecast retail usage and handle any discrepancies or issues with the LDC or customer if needed.
  • Maintain accurate position reporting and effectively communicate this information when necessary.
  • Back up West Scheduling and Wholesale Supply activities as necessary.

Reconciliation and Data Verification

  • Lead the daily tie out of trades against tracking spreadsheets, Allegro and EBBs.
  • Update daily tracking spreadsheets with most recent data including usage, cuts, reforecasting of forward usage, etc.
  • Supports Settlements and Accounting departments by providing both month-end estimated (proxy) data and, later, billable quality data to ensure the tying out of statements and wholesale volumes.
  • Provide month-end variance analysis for ETA / PPA and Accrual to internal stakeholders to clearly articulate material PnL.

Operations Leadership

  • Engage and assist other members of the West Gas Desk as additional expertise or guidance as needed.
  • Provide training to new/newer team members as opportunities arise.
  • Take lead or provide feedback on new commercial initiatives that will benefit organization.
  • Actively reach out to other departments to identify opportunities for synergies, process/ communication enhancements, or shortcomings.

Regulatory and Market Knowledge

  • Actively monitor third-party regulatory emails, LDC websites and industry contacts to proactively identify proposed changes to regulatory policy which may be impactful to the West gas Desk/Business.
  • Liaise with Desk around any LDC required actions such as storage or pipeline capacity requirements.
  • Communicate regulatory changes to internal stakeholders and adopt / implement revisions to retail paper and process accordingly.

Sales Support

  • Understand the retail business and be able to effectively communicate any potential customer related issues to both internal as well as external stakeholders.
  • Support sales by providing market intelligence, tariff guidelines and other analysis through self-initiative or as directed.
  • Prepare customer specific presentations, general market presentations, trend analysis and buy-plans as needed.
  • Interface with sales and customers to explore/develop new opportunities.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent leadership and communications skills, independent thinker with commercial savvy.
  • Must demonstrate strong quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills with an emphasis on attention to detail and approachability throughout the organization.
  • Robust knowledge of financial and physical energy trading markets, particularly natural gas markets is required. Experience in Western Physical markets is required.
  • Possess strong commercial and advanced spreadsheet design skills, with the ability to effectively articulate information.
  • Excellent computer skills with an emphasis on Excel, Word, Outlook, Sharepoint, VBA, C++, Matlab, and other internal systems.
  • Math, Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering degree required; MBA or other advanced technical degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of operations experience combined with structuring large integrated electric commodity transactions.

Salary Information

Salary range - $63,121 to $93,104
