Summary

Stifel's Public Finance Department is the investment banking division within the firm's Municipal Securities Group, encompassing investment banking, sales, trading and underwriting. Public Finance bankers assist state and local government agencies with raising capital to build facilities, including roads and transportation facilities, utilities and energy infrastructure, real estate development and public buildings, schools, and social infrastructure, better enabling those public agencies to serve their communities. The Department also works with non-profits and private sector borrowers that utilize tax-exempt bonds and includes bankers that specialize in public private partnerships.

With a significant level of autonomy, a Public Finance Associate provides analytical and transaction support on the issuance of municipal bonds, leads the development of proposals and presentations, and provides high-level assistance to the initiatives of the senior bankers. Public Finance Associates generally serve as the second or third person on client relationships and have extensive direct contact with clients and outside consultants. Public Finance Associates have strong technical and business development skills, have demonstrated an understanding of common municipal credit fundamentals, can complete complex financial models and are proactive in recruiting and training analysts and interns.

*This role has the ability to be located in our San Francisco, CA or Los Angeles, CA office*

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Prepare complex bond sizing models using excel, DBC or similar financial modeling software.
* Review financing and disclosure documents.
* Research capital needs and financial structure of local government agency clients and use such research to develop financing ideas for such agency.
* Create marketing and sales materials, attend client meetings, and act as a point of contact for the finance team throughout the financing process.
* Lead the preparation of client pitch books, Requests for Proposals and financing or refinancing memorandum.
* Present financing and credit concepts at working group meetings.
* Take a leadership role in recruiting and training junior bankers.

Qualifications

* Strong interest in local government, infrastructure projects and municipal finance.
* Ability to multi-task, work independently and collaborate in teams.
* Proficiency with web-based applications, and specialized information systems, including EMMA, Bloomberg, TM3, Securities Data Corp, and DBC.
* Knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
* Ability to prepare and deliver clear, effective and professional presentations.
* Competence in clearly and effectively communicating in both oral and written formats.

Education and Experience

* Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Math, Economics, Public Policy or a related field
* Preference For: 4 to 7 years' work experience in a related field

Licenses and Credentials

* Minimum Required: Series 52, 63 and 50, or ability to obtain within 12 months from date of hire

Salary: $100,000 - $150,000 per year
