Job Description

Position Description:

The responsibility of the Hi-Power Transmitter Mechanical Field Engineer will be the operation and maintenance of the DSS14 High Power Transmitter, the Venus site High Power Transmitter Test Facility, DSS13 80KW Transmitter, transmitter instrumentation, and microwave associated equipment. This will include supporting the Goldstone Solar System Radar tracking activities, participating in development activities, assisting in evaluations and analysis work methods related to sub-system maintenance for continuing improvement. This is a hands on job on a unique set of assets in support of NASA. Assist in planning efforts to identify, review, and analyze subsystem upgrades to meet new requirements and/or environmental regulations. Participate in the creation and updating of subsystem documentation. Work with the Lead Transmitter Engineer in developing and implementing an effective subsystem condition assessment and remediation program.

  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Have the ability to prepare presentations and reports.
  • Ability to produce detailed and accurate technical documentation.
  • Must be able to assist operations as required.
  • Enhance science data collection.

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

  • Office computer, hand tools
  • Software Operations Manuals, utilize software for operations and development.
  • Utilize various electronic test and diagnostic equipment.
  • System Performance Test (SPT) equipment.
  • Microwave components, control instrumentation.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

  • Most time spent at a computer console but some continuous standing required.
  • Climbing an antenna is required.(300 feet)
  • Extended work day possible

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION

  • Requires BS Degree in Electronics, or equivalent education and experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years related experience.

Education Contract Equivalent Statement:

  • BS degree in electrical engineering preferred, experience may be substituted.
