DESCRIPTION

The Wound Ostomy Nurse will provide services to inpatients, families, and the healthcare team.

Selected candidate will function as a clinical expert consultant and educator for wound ostomy patients. Will demonstrate the ability to provide care and treatment recommendations for wounds of all levels of complexity and taking all co-morbid conditions into account.Selected candidate will work with Wound Ostomy Nurse Team to collaboratively implement evidence-based practice to ensure quality patient outcomes, provide education and develop programs for clinical nurses, and support quality improvement projects.Participate in and/or lead efforts within organization to reduce hospital acquired pressure injury (HAPI) rate.Support efforts of existing team to expand services and support overall growth of organizationConsults healthcare team experts as needed. Make recommendations for products.Provides mentorship and precepts healthcare team members and student nurses.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice within the WOC nurse team as well as autonomously and consistent with ANA Standards of Practice. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Ensures optimal level of practice by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • RN license issued by the State of California.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Five (5+) or more years relevant experience to include Wound and Ostomy experience.

  • Experience with negative pressure therapy.

  • Experience and proven success in developing and delivering clinical nursing education and training material for orientation, class training and skills/competency learning.

  • Experience providing education to patients and families.

  • Proficient with information systems and computer programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN).
  • Certified in Wound and Ostomy from professional organization (e.g. OMS, WCC, CWOCN).
  • Experience working at an academic medical center.
  • Continuous quality improvement training.
  • Project management experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to commute to various hours and sites including Hillcrest and La Jolla, based on the UC San Diego Health System needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $112,100 - $216,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $53.69 - $103.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
