Salary range: The posted UC system-wide salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 24B for the salary range at UCSB. A reasonable estimated full-time rate for this position at 100% time is $52,600- $62,000. Salaries that are higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated experience level minimum, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
Percent time: 100%
Anticipated start: June 10, 2024
Position duration: Typically 1 year with possibility of extension, but could be less than 1 year due to restrictions on funding

Position description

The Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies (ICB) has an open position for a Molecular Biology Junior Specialist in Professor Morse's research group. This position will enable research that requires skills and knowledge in molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics with a focus on protein cloning, expression, engineering, purification and characterization. The Junior Specialist will contribute specialized skills and knowledge toward the advancement of fundamental structure/function, biotechnology and medically related research, collaborating in research analysis directly with the Principal Investigator, Prof. Morse, and with other senior academic employees.

The Junior Specialist will design, lead, and instruct in protein cloning, expression, engineering, purification, and characterization, and will maintain and distribute stocks of DNAs and proteins. This position will also be responsible for lab management, supervising lab assistant(s), and participating in a range of scholarly work and publications.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Appointees must possess a baccalaureate degree at time of application.

Preferred qualifications

Prior research experience in protein cloning, expression, engineering, purification, and characterization

Experience maintaining and distributing stocks of DNAs and proteins
