Location: This position is based on-site in Newburyport, MA. The position holder will need to be within commuting distance (within 45 min). The position will be on-site full time.

Value Stream Manager Summary:

The Value Stream Manager will manage and coordinate all direct labor employees assigned to the value stream. This position will also coordinate supply chain, engineering support, quality oversight and production activities for the value stream to ensure products are safely produced to quality standards, delivered on time and within cost objectives.

Value Stream Manager Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Defines and recommends production objectives.
  • Develops specific short and long-term plans / programs while supporting budget requests.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to continuously improve safety performance through regular assessments, audits, and reviews.
  • Works with the shipping department on any invoice / certification discrepancies.
  • Manages day to day operations, changing priorities as needed and managing resources to meet daily business requirements.
  • Develops partnerships with customers and vendors to create systems to monitor performance within the purchasing and customer service functions.
  • Provides leadership in the analysis and evaluation of inventory and production capacities relative to short and long-term commitments. Makes effective recommendations for new equipment acquisition, unit expansion, etc.
  • Provides direction to manufacturing teams to meet production goals and objectives.
  • Motivates and develops employees with emphasis on driving employee morale.
  • Facilitates skill acquisitions and training opportunities as the team and product volume expands.
  • Works closely with planning, customer service, purchasing and the shipping departments to achieve on-time-delivery (OTD) goals and mitigate delivery interruptions.
  • Reviews and provides customers with mitigation plans concerning late orders, product request changes, quality issues and any capacity increase requirements.
  • Assists in weekly and yearly forecast reviews and corporate flash reports.
  • Walks the production floor multiple times daily and as needed to check in with the operations team on status and addresses concerns on critical deliveries.
  • Escalates customer issues to upper management.
  • Works closely with the Engineering Manager to communicate customer changes (material changes, print changes, validation requirements and product changes.
  • Reviews daily quality line fall-off and coordinates with quality teams on corrective actions.
  • Participates in customer delivery meetings, reviews forecasts, open orders, and gaps.
  • Works closely with supervisory staff and technical service personnel on troubleshooting floor issues.
  • Works with supervisors and production schedulers on staffing levels to match monthly production demand.
  • Coordinates necessary meetings with team members to facilitate clear communications on actions needed.
  • Drives the daily operations meeting with production team members. Reviews production schedules, quality issues, raw material shortages and deliveries.
  • Manages overtime requirements to match customer delivery commitments.
  • Reviews and alerts quality teams of quality issues.
  • Works with R&D engineering and commercial team to communicate product commercialization timing to customers.
  • Monitors and analyzes product cost tracking versus standards (gross margin).
  • Supports and identifies cost savings opportunities within the manufacturing process.
Value Stream Manager Education / Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration and 3 - 5 years' experience managing manufacturing business units or 5-7 years of relevant experience. Experience in the medical device industry is a plus.
  • Proven experience in project management, product lifecycle management (PLM), and new product introduction (NPI) practices.
  • Excellent multi-project planning and systems skills with the ability to plan and coordinate projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to retain, motivate and develop a team. Strong talent management understanding and orientation.
  • Proven track record of meeting product delivery deadlines on budget through implementing repeatable processes for forecasting and project/program management.
  • Strong information technology skills with a high degree of computer literacy.
  • Strong product and process knowledge on output rates and product flow.
  • Strong ability to prioritize urgent vs nonurgent customer requirements.
