Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary
Under the management of the Assistant Director of Production and direction from the Director of Production and Technical Operations, the Assistant Production Manager supervises the pre-production and production workflow processes for related student projects. Ensure that Dodge College policies and proper safety procedures are followed for these projects. Manage production finance processes and insurance requests as needed. Maintain constant communication with all constituents, working closely with faculty and other production and technical staff to provide necessary oversight and support to student productions. Assist in the development and improvement of procedures and functions of Dodge College to streamline production workflows and improve student satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Manage the pre-production and production process for designated student projects:
  • Oversee the "green light" process, approving and managing projects to initiate the pre-production and production stages for thesis-level (narratives), intermediate and advanced projects.
  • Act as a key point of contact for Grad Productions in pre-production planning, production management, and production scheduling.
  • Guide and direct the insurance and financial administrative workflow, facilitate document requirements, and ensure compliance.
  • Supervise and monitor regulatory requirements in accordance with the SAG-AFTRA signatory process and film permitting process.

Administer and ensure compliance with Dodge College policies and safety procedures:
  • Conduct production management training and workshops for students during orientation week.
  • Present information sessions in specific classes.
  • Manage communication flow, disseminating and facilitating production and safety policies to students and faculty.
  • Oversee and maintain the Production Handbook containing policies and procedures for undergrad and grad productions.
  • Review scripts to identify safety and logistical concerns.
  • Ensure relevant resources and production planning are properly aligned with budgetary and logistical parameters.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on industry standard safety protocols related to stunts, driving sequences, fire, and prop weapons.

Support class assignment needs:
  • Work with faculty to organize group assignments, providing production management oversight.
  • Advise on the need for insurance and permitting and oversee the processing of certificates.
  • Review and approve filming location requests.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Film and TV or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of previous industry work experience in a professional physical production atmosphere.
  • 3+ years in production management with a focus on set safety advising, risk assessment, and hazard mitigation.
  • Knowledge of current production standards with the ability to break down scripts and analyze shooting schedules and budgets.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse individuals inside and outside the university.
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented while maintaining a high volume of work with a quick turnaround
  • Strong writing skills for communicating with supervisors, faculty, staff, and industry contacts.
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and adapt to constant interruption.
  • Ability to use tact and maintain confidentiality in oral and written communications.
  • Effectively collaborate with others in complex situations.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications, electronic mail, internet usage, and database management.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports and reconcile expenses.
  • Working knowledge of production film and video equipment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of industry standard software applications including EP/Movie Magic Software.
  • Previous work at a higher education institution.
  • Graduate degree in film or media arts preferred.
